Watch for Results Based on Recent BOP Changes
#34400 from Steve Introne · No action required · Minutes (2023-09 Fastrack)
Thank you for using the SCCA letter log system, it greatly helps the CRB keep track of the letters received.
In regard to the recent BoP changes that were made to the cars in B-Spec, please be aware that they were the result of
considerable thought and research. Some competitors are concerned that the change to the Mini Cooper is too significant. Prior
adjustments to this car in particular did not result in the desired change; their performance along with all other B-Spec cars will
be carefully monitored and the BoP addressed accordingly as the season progresses.
A few competitors have raised concern about the Mini Cooper not being “safe” because of the increased minimum weight
and/or the ballast that may be necessary to achieve the minimum. According to our calculations this car remains within the DOT
recommended maximum weight for a Mini Cooper. For reference purposes GCR 9.1.10.E.17 gives an excellent recommendation

for attaching ballast if necessary. It is further noteworthy that within SCCA there are many cars that safely carry and compete
with this type of ballast. For example, in T3 the Nissan 350Z carries an average of 190 lbs. of ballast and the Mazda RX8 routinely
carries 100 lbs. or more in T4. Be reminded however that as per GCR 5.9.2.B. the participant bears the ultimate responsibility at
all times to ensure the safety of his vehicle and equipment. If, for any reason, you, your driver, or crew, believe that your car is
not safe then it should never be on track. Participation in SCCA events is voluntary; you should not feel compelled to participate
if any doubt exists as to the safety and wellbeing of you, your driver, or crew.
Please remember if you are submitting a letter to the system which cites a problem or change that is needed to include your
idea(s) for resolution and the data that may have been used in your assessment.
Thanks again for the letter and great luck and fun with the balance of your 2023 race season.
