RUNOFFS ELEGIBLITY AND RUN GROUP DEFINITION

#36742 from MICHAEL DEVINS · No action required · Minutes (2024-11 Fastrack)

Thank you for your letter and for rallying support and involvement from within the prototype community. We encourage you
to obtain the same participation level on-track that you have achieved in responses to the Prototype proposal.
- The Runoffs is intended to feature the best of the best in driver, equipment, and classes. Unfortunately, the prototype classes
have regularly failed to meet the minimum 4.0 average, thus the merger. In the absence of such a merger, it is doubtful that
either class would have received an invitation to the 2025 Runoffs.
- To allow both P1 and P2 to receive a Runoffs invitation based upon their combined average would be unfair to all other
classes.
- By merging the classes and also allowing the P2 rule set to remain intact, P2 competitors may still race their cars without

making any additional investment and presently retain Runoffs eligibility.
- Running combined classes together has been strongly opposed at the National Championship Runoffs.
- P2 will remain a Majors-eligible class in 2025. P2 cars are eligible to run in the P class with no changes if they so choose at
Majors/HST/Runoffs.
- Working together, the prototype community can achieve and maintain Runoffs eligibility; running separately, P1 and P2 have
not been able to achieve a 4.0 participation level.
- The P2 community can work together to run in the P class utilizing the P2 rules and recognize a P2 champion, and where
appropriate SCCA Road Racing may provide support.
- A significant number of prototype cars exist within the SCCA's coverage, but participation levels have been well below the 4.0
goal. Participants have ownership for keeping prototype racing healthy, popular, and current.
