Charging Speeds

#37663 from Peter Lawrence · No action required · Minutes (2025-04 Fastrack)

Thank you for your letter. We have no “sway” with the EV industry. We’re only a car club who is writing rules, guidelines and
protocols to help make EV owning car enthusiasts have a place to play with their cars.
The biggest impediment to EV acceptance is the time it takes to charge. DCFCs are designed to get folks charged and on their
way. As far as I know, no DCFCs can adjust the amount of current your car can accept. Yes, they vary the amount of current
they push but that is based on what make/model of vehicle is connected to the unit. Maybe in the future a user can “dial in” the
amount of current the vehicle receives but we aren’t there yet.
Also, at this point, very few racetracks have DCFCs. I assume they will start to install them as EVs become more
ubiquitous. Most of the chargers I see at tracks are RV stalks with 30A or 50A service. A couple of my colleagues on the EVAC

race home built EVs and usually have to bring their own power to the track with them (usually a diesel generator).
