Request for Professional Editing of the General Competition Rules

#39599 from Thomas Jackson · No action required · Minutes (2026-02 Fastrack)

The CRB and National Staff recognize that the GCR has arrived in its current form in primarily two ways:
1. The tens of thousands of suggestions for rules modification that come from the membership over the years.
2. The fact that hundreds of volunteer members have been the editors through their service on the CRB as well as the
various Advisory Committees (ACs).
With these two groups of authors comes inconsistent language and technical document structure that continues to shift as we
move forward in a digital age. The first sentence of GCR 1.2.3 Interpreting and Applying the GCR covers tortured interpretations
and prevents creative members from using the inconsistent wording in unintended ways. GCR 8.1.4 Compliance Review Rule
Clarification provides avenues of interpretation and clarification for members.

While a full rewrite and design may seem easy to some, it will be an incredibly difficult and huge undertaking. It’s currently
beyond what the Club management feels is a best use of time and resources. That said, plans and research are underway to find
a more user-friendly solution that may also solve some of these issues mentioned above. This is scheduled to be rolled out in
2027.
In the meantime, the Club continues to welcome members to use the Letter Log System to suggest changes to these language
and technical structure issues.
