Allow CAN Bus Connection to Data Systems
#33806 from Kent Carter · Rule change · TB 23-06 (2023-05 Fastrack)
In B-Spec and C-Spec Categories Specifications, GCR Section 9.1.10.E.29., change as follows:
"Lap Timing and Data Acquisition Devices that perform no function other than to relay lap times to the driver (Longacre Hot Lap,
Intercomp Lap Timer, etc.) are permitted, along with the required mounting hardware and connections. Stand-alone data
acquisition systems (GPS or accelerometer-based) are allowed. One connection from the OBD2 port to the stand-alone dataacquisition system is permitted. No additional sensors may be added and the data acquisition system must not tie into thevehicle electronics in any other manner beyond this allowance. The SCCA may install a standalone data box in a
competitor’s car at any time. Refusal of the installation of the data box will result in disqualification. Analog (needle type) gauges
for oil pressure, oil temp and water temp may be added as long as they are not tied into the vehicles ECU in any way. Stand

alone shift lights may be added.
Connections to the CAN bus are permitted for the purpose of reading CAN data to monitor vehicle and driver performance using
data logging systems, dashboards and indicators. All connected systems must remain 'silent' on the CAN bus: they may receive
data but must not send data on the BUS. GPS-based data acquisition and coaching devices are permitted."
