Clarifying the ECU and Data Acquisition language
#35236 from Kent Carter · Rule change · TB 24-01 (2024-01 Fastrack)
In GCR, Section 9.1.10.E.37., change as follows:
"ECU/PCM: OEM ECU/PCMs is required. Alternate engine calibrations are allowed. The car may meet federal emissionstandards, but shall provide OBD II compliant data to the data link connector. Manufacturers may provide a stability controloverride procedure or module. ECU/PCM: All electronic control systems (ECU/PCM/ABS, etc) must be unaltered, model-
appropriate US domestic market OE devices unless otherwise permitted on the spec line. Alternate engine calibrations are
allowed but no changes are permitted and no device capable of altering ECU characteristics may be present in the car from the
time the car enters the grid until after impound and any stewards’ actions. OBD II compliant data correct for the car must be
present at the data link connector. Malfunction codes (‘check engine light’) may be present. Manufacturers or competitors may

submit ABS, stability control and speed limiter override procedures or modules for approval and listing on the spec line."
In GCR, Section 9.1.10.E.29., change as follows:
"Lap Timing and Data Acquisition Devices that perform no function other than to relay lap times to the driver (Longacre Hot Lap,Intercomp Lap Timer, etc.) are permitted, along with the required mounting hardware and connections. Stand-alone dataacquisition systems (GPS or accelerometer-based) are allowed. The SCCA may install a standalone data box in a competitor’s carat any time. Refusal of the installation of the data box will result in disqualification. Analog (needle type) gauges for oil pressure, oil temp and water temp may be added as long as they are not tied into the vehicles ECU in any way. Stand alone shift lights maybe added. Connections to the CAN bus are permitted for the purpose of reading CAN data to monitor vehicle and driverperformance using data logging systems, dashboards and indicators. All connected systems must remain ‘silent’ on the CAN bus:they may receive data but must not send data on the BUS. GPS-based data acquisition and coaching devices are permitted. Data
acquisition systems (GPS or accelerometer-based), lap timers, and coaching systems are allowed. Tachometer, shift lights, oil
pressure and temperature, coolant pressure and temperature, air-fuel ratio, and cylinder head temperature sensors may be
added, integrated into a data acquisition system, and/or displayed to the driver from entry into the grid until the end of impound
and stewards’ actions connections to the CAN bus are permitted only for the purpose of reading CAN data to monitor and display
vehicle and driver performance using data acquisition systems, dashboards and indicators. All connected systems must remain
‘silent’ on the CAN bus: they may receive data but must not be capable of sending or altering data on the bus, nor may they be
capable of changing ECU behavior. Collected data may be displayed to the driver. Devices must be securely mounted. External
devices may not be connected to the car during impound without the permission of a steward or tech official."
